Verhnyodniprovs'k

The first mention refers to 1680 - 1690. The town was mentioned as Cossacks winter camp. After destroying Zaporozhian Sich by Russian government prince Potemkin founded there a big settlement classified as a district town and named Verkhn'odniprovs'k.

The emblem of the Russian period

 

 

The emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 29th of July 1811. In the upper part of the or and vert per fess shield a unharnessed bull; in the lower part - an argent obliquely to the dexter side river to signify rich cattle-farming of the region.

B.Kene project

 

 

In XIX century B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. In an or field there is a sable playing bull turning to the right, burdened with the vert baldrick on the right. In the canton there is an emblem of Katerynoslavs'ka province. The shield is crown with an argent mauerkrone with three towers and framed with two or ears, which are twined with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.
