Kupians`k

It is situated near the river Kupianka where the name of the town comes from. The first settlers came there in 1655.

Till 1685 it was a squadron town of Kharkiv regiment. Since 1685 it became a squadron town of Izium regiment.

Since 1780 it was a chief town of Voronizh district.

The 1st emblem of the Russian period

The first emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 28th of September 1781. In the upper part of a per fess shield Voronizhs'ka emblem. In the lower part in an or field there was a passant marmot a plenty of which lived there.

The 2nd emblem of the Russian period

Since 1797 Kupians'k was a chief town of Slobids'ko-Ukrainian and later of Kharkiv district. The emblem was also changed. In the upper part of the emblem there was put Kharkiv emblem.

B.Kene project

In XIX century B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. In a or a field there is a sable bayback, turning to the right. In the canton there is an emblem of Kharkivs'ka province. The shield is crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three towers and framed with two or ears, which are twined with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.

The soviet emblem

It is authorized at May, 22d, 1970. A gules shield has azure dexter flank. In the flank is an ear and a winged wheel. In the shield is silicon cartridge sector.
