Vasyl`kiv

The first mention refers to 996. It was founded by prince Volodymyr and it had the name of Vasyliv. That name was given to the prince after baptism. After the defeat in a battle with Pechenegi tribes Volodymyr vowed Preobrazhens'ka church to God for the safety. That church was built in a year. In 1157 the town had got the modern name.

In 1586 it was given the Magdeburg Right.

Since 1648 it was a squadron town of Kyiv regiment.

The emblem of the Russian period

The emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 26th of December 1852. A per fess shield with azure and gules. In the upper part there was Kyivs'ka emblem, in the lower part - an or church on a vert mountain. The shield is crowned with an argent town crown with five embattlements.

B.Kene project

In 1864 B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town - in a gules field on a vert mountain is an or church. The emblem of Kyivs'ka province was in the canton. The shield was crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements and within two or spikes entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.
